A UGA Vet

For me this all wrapped up in 1991 at UGA. I’m a Vet.

Introduction

The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is a professional degree that is awarded to individuals who have completed a four-year program of study in veterinary medicine. The curriculum of a DVM program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become competent veterinarians. This handbook provides an overview of the curriculum that veterinary students must complete in order to earn their DVM.

Coursework

The curriculum of a DVM program typically consists of a combination of classroom instruction and clinical experience. During the first two years of the program, students take courses in basic sciences such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pharmacology. In addition, students take courses in animal behavior, nutrition, and pathology. During the third and fourth years of the program, students focus on clinical courses such as surgery, internal medicine, and radiology.

In addition to the classroom instruction, veterinary students must also complete a number of clinical rotations. These rotations provide students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a variety of veterinary settings. During these rotations, students are expected to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the areas of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of animal diseases.

Skills

In order to successfully complete their DVM program, veterinary students must demonstrate a number of skills. These skills include the ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and other professionals; the ability to make sound decisions based on scientific evidence; and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. In addition, students must demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.

Senior Year

During their senior year, veterinary students must complete a number of requirements in order to graduate. These requirements include passing a comprehensive examination, completing a research project, and completing a clinical rotation. In addition, students must demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the areas of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of animal diseases.
